Where Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reached its world stage
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in 1970 by Warren Winiarski on a 44-acre estate in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. The winery's 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon famously outscored the top Bordeaux châteaux at the 1976 Paris Tasting — a blind tasting organized by British wine merchant Steven Spurrier that changed the world's perception of California wine forever. Today, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars continues to produce some of Napa Valley's most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons from its estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, a sub-appellation defined by its distinctive palisade rock formations and the cooling afternoon winds that blow in from San Pablo Bay.
